What is a cinnamon roll breakfast sandwich?

Melty cheese, fluffy scrambled eggs and crispy bacon are tucked in between layers of gooey, icing-topped Pillsbury™ Grands!™ Cinnamon Rolls. It’s a salty-sweet breakfast sensation that’s super satisfying, too.

How to serve cinnamon roll breakfast sandwiches

Treat your family to a cinnamon roll sandwich on the weekend — it’s a fun breakfast both kids and adults will love! Or, double the recipe and invite a few friends over for brunch. Serve with fresh fruit or a glass of fresh-squeezed orange juice. Got leftover bacon? Serve it on the side for everyone to nibble on as they sip their coffee, or save it for BLT Crescent Sandwiches later in the week.

Ingredients

Steps

  •
    1
Heat oven to 350°F. Line cookie sheet with cooking parchment paper.
  •
    2
Separate dough into 5 rolls; place about 3 inches apart on cookie sheet.
  •
    3
Bake 18 to 21 minutes or until golden brown.
  •
    4
Spread icing over rolls; cool on cookie sheet 5 minutes.
  •
    5
Meanwhile, in medium bowl, beat eggs, milk and salt thoroughly with fork or whisk until well mixed.
  •
    6
In 10-inch nonstick skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Pour egg mixture into skillet.
  •
    7
Cook 2 to 4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until cooked through.
  •
    8
To serve, cut warm cinnamon rolls in half horizontally; top bottom half of each with cheese, scrambled eggs and bacon. Cover with top halves of cinnamon rolls.

Tips from the Pillsbury Kitchens

  • tip 1
Cook bacon on rimmed sheet pan, until slightly less crispy than you’d prefer. Drain on paper towels, then store in resealable food-storage plastic bag in refrigerator up to 4 days. When ready to use, cut bacon strips in half with kitchen scissors, then reheat on a piece of foil in toaster oven or on pan in oven. Or place on a plate, and microwave until warm.
  • tip 2
Looking for a quick substitute for the bacon? Try Canadian bacon. This smoked meat, which is closer to ham, is precooked so you just need to heat it and add it to your breakfast sandwich.
  • tip 3
Crumble a piece or two of crisply cooked bacon and sprinkle on top of the breakfast sandwiches before serving to give them an extra special finish.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use sausage or a meatless option for this recipe?

You can use your favorite cooked breakfast sausage patty for this recipe — simply follow the package directions to cook or heat up the meat, then layer it on your sandwich in place of (or in addition to!) bacon. For a meatless twist, saute fresh sliced mushrooms in a little butter, seasoning them with salt and pepper to taste.

Can I use a different kind of cheese?

Different types of cheeses, such as cheddar or mozzarella can be used, but they won’t melt as nicely as the American cheese. To melt other types of cheese, heat the bottom half of the rolls with the cheese on top in a toaster oven or microwave, just until the cheese melts.

What is the best way to cut the cinnamon rolls?

A serrated knife is the best choice for cutting the baked cinnamon rolls.
