Cozy, cheesy, and baked to perfection, this twist on a classic cordon bleu is perfect for family dinner. Traditionally a French dish, “cordon bleu” translates to “blue ribbon.” With a whole host of distinct and beloved flavors, this recipe lives up to its name by being a blue-ribbon, top-tier dinner for any night of the week.

Recipe Ingredients

Easy ingredients make a big payoff!

Pillsbury™ Original Crescent Rolls: Not only are crescents flaky, full of flavor, and simple to work with, they also make the crust of this recipe ultra-easy!

Parmesan & Muenster Cheese: These cheeses give cordon bleu its distinct flavor. You can use Swiss or cheddar if you prefer; just make sure the cheese is sliced.

Honey-Battered Chicken Tenders: We love honey-battered chicken tenders for the added flavor and crispiness. Regular chicken tenders work fine, too; there will just be less sweet flavor.

Other Ingredients You’ll Need: Deli ham is essential to the classic cordon bleu flavor and adds slight saltiness. Onion and garlic add sweetness and richness to the dish. Mayonnaise is the base of your sauce and helps hold other ingredients together. Dijon adds tang, sharpness, and mild heat, as does the horseradish. Honey balances the acidity, and lemon adds brightness.

How to Make Deep-Dish Chicken Cordon Bleu

You’re just a few steps away from a beloved family dinner!

1. Prebake the Dough

Unroll the crescent dough in a sprayed baking dish, and press perforations to seal. Bake for 10 to 13 minutes.

2. Cook Garlic and Onion

While the dough is baking, heat butter and oil over medium heat. Add onion and garlic and cook until softened. Remove from heat and stir cut-up chicken tenders into the garlic and onions.

3. Make Sauce

Stir mayonnaise, Parmesan cheese, mustard, lemon juice, horseradish, honey, and thyme until well blended.

4. Assemble the Casserole

Place half of the Muenster cheese over the baked crust. Spoon half of the mayonnaise mixture over that. Layer chicken mixture. Spoon remaining mayonnaise over chicken. Cover evenly with ham. Top with remaining 8 slices of Muenster cheese.

5. Bake

Bake at 375°F for 15 to 20 minutes or until the cheese is melted and the filling is heated.

How to Store (and Reheat) Deep-Dish Chicken Cordon Bleu

Have leftovers? Deep-Dish Chicken Cordon Bleu is great the next day. Storing and reheating them properly gives you a few meals out of one dish!

Refrigerator Storage (Recommended)

Store leftovers in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 3 days

Freezer Storage

We do not recommend storing leftovers in the freezer. Doing so can make the crescent dough dense and soggy when thawed.

Reheating

To reheat leftovers, cover them with foil and bake at 350° for 15 minutes or until hot and at least 165°F in the center.
