My daughter loves to cook and is constantly watching cooking shows on TV and online. She likes to watch a show online about making common dishes extraordinary, so I wanted to surprise her with a super twist on a traditional dessert. She loves apple pie and Pillsbury® Cinnamon Rolls, so I thought to make the pie using Pillsbury® Cinnamon Rolls as the crust!
What started out as an experiment turned into one of the most amazing apple pies I have ever made. I served it one Sunday when my whole family was over for our traditional pasta dinner. Needless to say, dessert was a huge hit. Even my mom, who makes the most amazing apple pies, said this was winner!
I used cinnamon rolls as the crust, gave the pie a crumb (streusel) topping and then drizzled the glaze that came with the rolls over the top of the pie after it cooled.
You only need a few ingredients to make the pie.
Making the crust with the cinnamon rolls was very simple. I rolled out each one on a floured surface and then placed them in the pie plate, sealing the seams with my fingers. Once I got the cinnamon roll crust into the pie plate, I added my apples and crumb topping. It was that easy.
