It’s time to get out the slow cooker and make everybody’s favorite dish — Buffalo Chicken Dip. This easy recipe is not just a game day favorite. It’s also a fun treat to make for your family any time you want to put smiles on their faces. And because the chicken is in the dip (no separate wings to make!), it cuts prep time in half.

Buffalo Chicken Dip is a classic American treat. Legend has it that Buffalo Chicken was developed at a bar in Buffalo, New York, when some regulars came in and the bartender asked his mom to whip up some food for them. She found some chicken wings and fried them up in a secret sauce. The wings were an instant sensation!

What goes best with Buffalo Chicken Dip?

This classic chicken wing dip is delicious and versatile. Use it as a dip for all the savory snacks you enjoy — chips, pita chips, crackers, toasted bread, celery sticks, carrot sticks, broccoli florets, red bell pepper slices, sliced cucumber and whatever else you have in your crisper drawer.

But if you skip the dippables and just eat this by the spoonful, we won’t tell!

What’s the best way to store Buffalo Chicken Dip?

To store in the refrigerator:
Cover and refrigerate for up to 3 days.

To store in the freezer:
Dips can be kept frozen for 2 to 3 months. Place in freezer-safe container. Allow 1/4- to 1/2-inch headspace for expansion in freezer container as the mixture freezes. Cool completely in refrigerator before freezing. Thaw in refrigerator overnight before reheating, or use microwave defrost setting. Use within one day of thawing.

To reheat:
Place refrigerated or frozen, thawed dip in small saucepan over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until steaming, or reheat in the microwave. Thick mixtures tend to become thicker during storage. Add a little broth, milk or half-and-half while reheating until the mixture reaches the desired consistency.

What is Buffalo Chicken Dip made of?

In classic Buffalo Chicken Dip recipes, the ingredient list calls for chicken, cheese, and Buffalo sauce. Some people add hot sauce, and others like to add blue cheese. We say, go for the gold and add both!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups shredded deli rotisserie chicken (from 2-lb chicken)
  • 1 loaf (16 oz) spicy Buffalo prepared cheese product, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) Muir Glen™ organic fire roasted diced tomatoes, drained
  • 1/4 cup Buffalo wing sauce
  • Crumbled blue cheese, if desired
  • Celery sticks and bagel chips, if desired

Steps

  • 1
Spray 3-quart slow cooker with cooking spray. In slow cooker, mix chicken, cheese product, tomatoes and Buffalo wing sauce.
  • 2
Cover; cook on Low heat setting 2 hours or until cheese is melted. Sprinkle dip with blue cheese. Serve warm with celery sticks and bagel chips.

Tips from the Pillsbury Kitchens

  • tip 1
If your rotisserie chicken is chilled, microwave it 1 to 2 minutes to slightly warm it. Warm chicken is much easier to pull and shred.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is my buffalo chicken dip so runny?

Chicken wing dip can get runny if you use a reduced fat cheese or don’t add enough chicken. If this happens, you can thicken the dip by adding more full-fat cheese.

How do you keep Buffalo Chicken Dip from getting greasy?

Cooking the dip at too high a temperature can cause the dip to get oily; so can overcooking. That’s why we cook this easy Buffalo Chicken Dip on low for 2 hours in the slow cooker.
