Ingredients

  • 1 roll (16.5 oz) refrigerated Pillsbury™ Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough
  • 1 box red velvet cake mix
  • 2/3 cup melted unsalted butter
  • 2 eggs, room temperature
  • Powdered sugar, if desired

Steps

  • 1
Heat oven to 350°F. Spray 8-inch square pan with baking spray with flour.
  • 2
With lightly floured fingers, break up cookie dough into pan; press evenly in bottom of pan to form crust. (DO NOT EAT RAW COOKIE DOUGH AFTER PRESSING DOUGH IN PAN WITH FLOURED FINGERS.)
  • 3
Bake 15 minutes. Remove pan from oven; cool 10 minutes. Meanwhile, in medium bowl, beat cake mix, melted butter and eggs with whisk until well combined.
  • 4
Spread cake batter evenly over partially baked crust. Return to oven; bake 25 to 30 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool completely, about 45 minutes.
  • 5
Cut cooled bars into 4 rows by 3 rows; sprinkle with powdered sugar.

Tips from the Pillsbury Kitchens

  • tip 1
These bars can be served plain or with powdered sugar. To create a darling heart shape in the middle of each bar, simply cut out a one-inch heart from a piece of parchment paper or paper towel, lay it in the middle of a bar, and coat with powdered sugar using a sieve. Quickly remove the heart stencil and repeat for each bar.
  • tip 2
You can also make the bars even more decadent by spreading on a layer of cream cheese frosting.
  • tip 3
If you want to make a tray of thinner bars, spread the ingredients in a wider pan or halve the recipe using the same size pan but bake for less time.
