Ingredients

Steps

  •
    1
Heat oven to 350°F. Line large cookie sheets with cooking parchment paper.
  •
    2
Separate dough into 5 rolls. Unroll each roll, and cut dough in half lengthwise to make 10 strips of dough. Weave each strip of dough back and forth into a triangular tree shape, with dough touching each other. Place 2 inches apart on cookie sheet; secure top and bottom of dough with toothpicks. Flatten dough slightly with hands.
  •
    3
Bake about 10 minutes or until light golden brown and firm enough to turn. Carefully turn over using toothpicks on both ends of dough; bake 4 to 7 minutes or until golden brown. Remove to cooling rack. Cool completely, about 30 minutes. Remove toothpicks from trees; discard.
  •

Meanwhile, in medium bowl, place icing and cream cheese; beat with spoon until well blended. Stir in powdered sugar until mixed well. Tint icing mixture with green food color to desired color. Cover and refrigerate until ready to decorate.
  •
    5
On flat side of each cinnamon roll tree, spread icing mixture to cover. Add sprinkles or sugar to decorate. Add gumdrop at top of tree to make star and peanut butter cup or chocolate caramel to make tree trunk (securing with a small amount of frosting or placing next to bottom of tree.) Decorate using photo as a guide.

Tips from the Pillsbury Kitchens

  • tip 1
Quickly soften cream cheese by removing from packaging, placing on a microwavable plate and microwaving uncovered on High for about 15 seconds or until just softened.
  • tip 2
Toothpicks help the dough hold its tree shape while baking—make sure to remove them before decorating and serving your cinnamon roll trees.
  • tip 3
Turn the dough over partway through baking time to give the rolls a flat side for decorating.
  • tip 4
Cool your Christmas Tree Cinnamon Rolls completely before decorating so the icing mixture won't slide off the sides.
