Caramelized onion adds a distinctive flavor this creamy dip - a perfect appetizer. MORE+ LESS-

Ingredients

1/4 cup butter or margarine
1
medium sweet onion, chopped
1
medium red onion, chopped
2
tablespoons balsamic vinegar
1
cup sour cream
1
package (8 oz) cream cheese, softened
2
tablespoons chopped fresh chives
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Additional chopped fresh chives, if desired

    In 12-inch skillet, melt butter over medium-low heat. Cook onions in butter 15 to 20 minutes, stirring frequently, until very soft and light golden brown. Add vinegar; cook 5 minutes, stirring frequently. Remove from heat; cool completely, about 20 minutes.

    In medium bowl, mix sour cream, cream cheese, 2 tablespoons chives, the salt and pepper. Stir in caramelized onions. Serve immediately or refrigerate until serving time. Garnish with additional chives.

Serve the dip with pita chips or thick, salt and pepper kettle-cooked potato chips, and it’s sure to be a crowd-pleaser.
