Ingredients

Steps

  • 1
Heat oven to 350°F. Spray 9-inch round or square pan with cooking spray.
  • 2
In 10-inch nonstick skillet, cook apples, brown sugar and butter over medium heat 8 to 10 minutes, stirring frequently, until brown sugar-butter mixture thickens slightly and apples are tender. Stir in cinnamon. Set aside to cool in pan 5 minutes.
  • 3
Separate dough into 5 rolls; reserve icing. Place rolls in bottom of pan, spacing slightly apart. Pour whipping cream over tops of rolls.
  • 4
Spoon apple mixture evenly over tops of rolls. Cover with foil. Bake 15 minutes. Uncover, and bake 16 to 19 minutes longer or until dough is baked through in centers of rolls and edges are light golden brown. Let stand 2 minutes.
  • 5
In small microwavable bowl, microwave reserved icing uncovered on High 5 to 10 seconds, stirring until thin enough to drizzle. Drizzle icing over tops of baked rolls. Cool 5 minutes before serving.

Tips from the Pillsbury Kitchens

  • tip 1
We found that a 9-inch metal round or square pan works best with this recipe so dough has enough room to expand while baking.
  • tip 2
Cut a piece of parchment paper to line bottom of pan for easy cleanup.
  • tip 3
For extra decadence, serve any remaining cream mixture from the pan alongside the rolls.
  • tip 4
For best results, choose an apple variety that works best for apple pie, such as Granny Smith, Honeycrisp or Golden Delicious. These apples are firm to the bite with a sweet-tart flavor.
  • tip 5
Looking for a shortcut? Make your cinnamon rolls with apple pie filling from a can instead! Place rolls in pan, and pour whipping cream over tops of rolls. In small bowl, mix 1/4 cup melted butter, 1/4 cup packed brown sugar and 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon. Drop tablespoonfuls of mixture over tops of rolls, stirring mixture each time. Cover with foil, and bake 15 minutes. Remove foil, and bake uncovered 12 to 15 minutes longer or until dough in center of each roll is baked through and edges are light golden brown. Spread icing from can of cinnamon rolls over baked rolls, then spoon 3/4 cup canned more fruit apple pie filling (from 21-oz can) evenly over rolls. Sprinkle with a dash of extra cinnamon, if desired. Let cool 5 minutes before serving.
  • tip 6
Cover and store any remaining apple pie cinnamon rolls in refrigerator. To reheat, place 1 roll on microwavable plate and microwave uncovered on High 30 to 45 seconds or until heated through.
