It takes a lot of guts to try to improve on the king of tailgating foods, the classic jalapeño popper. While it’s hard to beat that crispy, creamy, spicy combo, we think we’ve done it with this golden, flaky crescent ring. We’ve even ditched the deep fryer! The perfectly-baked party ring is packed with traditional popper flavors like cream cheese, sharp cheddar, and briny pickled jalapeños—teamed up with chicken and bacon—to give this appetizer an over-the-top flavor. Serve it with ranch dressing on the side for dipping.

Recipe Ingredients

Here’s a look at what you’ll need for this crescent ring.

Pillsbury™ Original Crescent Rolls: Use 2 cans of crescent dough to form the ring base.

Chive and Onion Cream Cheese Spread: Cream cheese is essential in jalapeño poppers and helps bind the filling. Chive and onion pair nicely with the flavors here, but plain or other savory varieties work, too.

Chicken: Any shredded chicken you have at home will work. Use leftover or grab a rotisserie chicken at the store.

Sharp Cheddar: Cheddar gives great flavor, but experiment with other semi-firm cheeses like Jack, mozzarella, or gouda if you prefer.

Pickled Jalapeños: We’ve switched it up with a pickled variety for a briny, spicy zing. Use sliced or whole—find them near the pickles.

Bacon: Jalapeño poppers are decadent, so lean in! Bacon adds texture and welcomed smokiness. Buy pre-cooked bacon bits or cook and crumble your own.

How to Make Chicken-Bacon Jalapeño Popper Crescent Ring

1.Make the Filling

Stir all the filling ingredients together to get a smooth, creamy mixture.

2. Arrange the Crescent

Open and unroll both cans of crescent rolls. Separate the triangles and arrange them in a sunburst pattern with bases overlapping to form a circle. If this seems tricky, place a small bowl (about 4-inches in diameter) upside-down in the center. Then, place the triangles around the outer edge of the bowl as a guide. When all the crescents are placed, remove the bowl.

3. Make the Ring

Mound the filling in a circle over the crescent base. Fold the triangle points up and over the filling to enclose it, tucking the ends underneath the ring in the center.

4. Bake and Serve

Bake the crescent ring until it’s a beautiful, flakey golden brown. Let cool slightly, slice, and enjoy.

How to Store (and Reheat) Chicken-Bacon Jalapeño Popper Crescent Ring

This one goes fast, but if you have any leftovers, here’s how to store and reheat them.

Refrigerator

Cut any leftover crescent ring into individual servings. Cover and store in an airtight food storage container in the refrigerator up to 3 days.

Freezer

We don’t recommend freezing the crescent ring since the crescents can take on too much moisture and become soggy.

Reheating

To reheat from refrigerated, transfer individual servings to an oven-safe plate or baking dish, and cover lightly with foil. Heat in a 350°F oven for 10 to 15 minutes or until heated to at least 165° in the center (use a food thermometer). Alternatively, transfer individual servings onto microwavable plates. Cover loosely and microwave on Medium-High (70%) for about 2 minutes or until steaming.

Instructions

  • Step
    1

Heat oven to 375°F. Line a large baking sheet with cooking parchment paper.

  • Step
    2

In a medium bowl, stir together the cream cheese spread, shredded chicken, cheddar cheese, pickled jalapeños, and bacon.

  • Step
    3

Open the cans of crescent rolls, and arrange the triangles in a ring shape on the baking sheet with the base of the triangles overlapping in the center and the points facing outward like a sunburst. The inner circle should be about 4 inches in diameter.

  • Step
    4

Spoon the filling in a thick ring over the overlapping dough near the center.

  • Step
    5

Gently bring the dough points over the filling, and tuck them under the center of the ring. Don’t worry if it’s not perfect; it’ll bake beautifully.

  • Step
    6

Bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until golden brown and heated through. Check the bottom of the ring to make sure it’s cooked through and browned.

  • Step
