All-American Lean Burgers

lb. extra-lean ground beef

cup rolled oats
1/3
cup finely chopped onion

teaspoon salt

teaspoon pepper

cup skim milk
1/4
cup barbecue sauce, if desired

    Heat grill. In large bowl, combine all ingredients except barbecue sauce; mix well. Shape mixture into 6 patties, 1/2 inch thick.

    When ready to grill, lightly oil grill rack. Place patties on gas grill over medium heat or on charcoal grill 4 to 6 inches from medium coals. Cook 10 to 12 minutes or until burgers are thoroughly cooked, turning once and brushing each side occasionally with barbecue sauce.

Expert Tips

To broil patties, place on broiler pan; broil 4 to 6 inches from heat using times above as a guide.
