These baked beans made with canned beans come together quickly, then the slow cooker steps in and blends the flavors over six or more hours.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb. bacon, diced
  • 1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • 4 (16-oz.) cans baked beans
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped

    In large skillet over medium heat, cook bacon until crisp. Drain, reserving 2 tablespoons drippings.

    In 3 1/2- to 4-quart slow cooker, combine bacon, reserved drippings and all remaining ingredients; mix well. Cover; cook on high setting for 1 hour.

    Reduce heat to low setting; cook an additional 5 to 7 hours.
