  • 1 tablespoon cloves*
  • 1 tablespoon nutmeg*
  • 3/4 cup applesauce
  • 2 tablespoons white glue
  • 1 drinking straw
  • Ribbon

Steps

  • 1
In medium bowl, combine cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg. Add applesauce and glue; stir to combine. Work mixture with hands for 2 to 3 minutes or until dough is smooth and ingredients are thoroughly mixed. Divide dough into 4 portions. Roll out each portion to 1/4-inch thickness. Cut dough with 2-inch cookie cutters of desired shapes.

Using drinking straw or toothpick, make small hole in top of each ornament. Place cutouts on wire racks; allow to dry at room temperature for several days.** Insert ribbon through hole in each ornament; tie with knot or bow. DO NOT EAT.

Tips from the Pillsbury Kitchens

  • tip 1
*Some large supermarkets and food co-ops sell spices in bulk quantities. **For more uniform drying, turn ornaments over once each day.
  • tip 2
Prepare Scented Cinnamon Ornaments dough as directed. Trace a 3-inch heart or 4-inch child's handprint on a piece of cardboard; cut out. Use as a pattern to cut out dough. Using 1 1/2-inch heart-shaped or round cookie cutter, cut out center of each large heart or handprint. (Discard or prepare center cutouts as ornaments.) Dry as directed in recipe. Decorate dried napkin rings with craft puffy paints or colored glues. DO NOT EAT.
