medium avocados, sliced lengthwise, pitted and peeled

tablespoons fresh lime or lemon juice

teaspoon hot sauce
Tortilla chips, as desired

    In medium bowl, coarsely mash avocados, lime juice, salt and hot sauce using potato masher, pastry blender or fork. Serve with tortilla chips.

Expert Tips

  • Avocados are ready to use when they are black with a hint of green and give slightly when pressed.
  • You can substitute 1 seeded finely chopped jalapeño chile or 1/4 teaspoon ground red pepper (cayenne) in place of the hot sauce.
  • Try some of these flavorful additions: Add 2 tablespoons red or white onion, 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro, 1 clove finely chopped garlic or 1 medium seeded chopped tomato.
