Ingredients

: 1/4 cup butter or margarine

1: medium sweet onion, chopped

1: medium red onion, chopped

2: tablespoons balsamic vinegar

1: cup sour cream

1: package (8 oz) cream cheese, softened

2: tablespoons chopped fresh chives

: 1/2 teaspoon salt

: 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

: Additional chopped fresh chives, if desired

Directions

1 In 12-inch skillet, melt butter over medium-low heat. Cook onions in butter 15 to 20 minutes, stirring frequently, until very soft and light golden brown. Add vinegar; cook 5 minutes, stirring frequently. Remove from heat; cool completely, about 20 minutes.
2 In medium bowl, mix sour cream, cream cheese, 2 tablespoons chives, the salt and pepper. Stir in caramelized onions. Serve immediately or refrigerate until serving time. Garnish with additional chives.
