This easy but elegant-looking savory ring is the perfect shareable snack for game day and beyond; it will truly shine among the sea of typical tailgating foods. Your guests will keep coming back to this pull-apart snack for another cocktail weenie wrapped in flaky crescents, and you’ll be proud to display it. Add flair with dipping sauces—try ketchup, mustard, ranch, barbeque, or whatever your favorites are.

Recipe Ingredients

Look here for a sneak peek of what you’ll need to create this show-stopping appetizer.

Pillsbury™ Original Crescent Rolls (8 Count): You’ll need 2 cans!

Pre-Sliced Cheddar Cheese: For this recipe we strongly encourage buying pre-sliced cheese. This way you’re guaranteed to have consistently-sized slices when you cut each slice into 8 smaller, equal-sized pieces. Switch it up and use another cheese with a similar texture to cheddar—try Jack, Colby, or Gouda.

Cocktail-Sized Smoked Sausages: You’ll need 2 packages of mini smoked sausages, but you will have a few extra for snacking.

Other Ingredients You’ll Need: Ketchup and/or mustard (optional).

How to Make a Mini Crescent-Dog Pull Apart Ring

1. Slice the Crescents

Pop open and unroll both cans of crescent dough. Carefully separate the triangles and pat or stretch them into an even triangle shape, so you can easily slice each one into 3 long, skinny triangles. You’ll have 48 skinny triangles when you finish slicing.

2. Roll and Arrange

Roll up each crescent with a sausage and a piece of cheese. Haphazardly arrange the crescent-wrapped mini dogs in the prepared pan to create the signature look of this pull-apart ring.

3. Bake and Unmold

Bake the pull-apart ring until golden brown and cooked through. Cool slightly, then invert the tube pan to release the ring.

4. Serve

Just pull apart and dip in ketchup, mustard, or your sauce of choice!

How to Store (and Reheat) Mini Crescent Dog Pull-Apart Ring

Refrigerator

Let any leftover mini crescent dogs cool completely before transferring them to an airtight food storage container or resealable plastic bag. Store them in the fridge for up to 3 days.

Freezer

To store in the freezer, separate the mini crescent dogs from the ring and let cool completely. Place a single layer of mini crescent dogs into a resealable plastic freezer food storage bag. Seal the bag shut and lay flat in the freezer.

Reheating

  • Reheating from Fridge: Arrange the mini crescent dogs on a lined baking sheet, and heat in a 350°F oven for 10 to 12 minutes or until they’re heated through, the cheese is melted, and the crescent dough starts to re-crisp slightly.
  • Reheating from Freezer: Place the frozen mini crescent dogs on large ungreased cookie sheet and loosely cover them with foil. Heat in a 325°F oven for 14 to 16 minutes or until heated through.

Instructions

  • Step
    1

Heat oven to 325°F. Spray 12-cup fluted tube cake pan with cooking spray.

  • Step
    2

Unroll and separate the dough into triangles. Cut each triangle lengthwise into 3 narrow triangles.

  • Step
    3

Place one piece of cheese on the base of each triangle. Place a sausage on top of cheese. Roll up the cheese and sausage in the dough starting at the base of the triangle and rolling to the opposite point.

  • Step
    4

Place each crescent roll in the pan, allowing them to lay at different angles. Bake for 45 to 50 minutes or until crescents in center of the pan are cooked through (at least 195°F).

  • Step
    5

Cool for 5 minutes. Place a heatproof plate upside down over the pan, turn the plate and pan over, tap the bottom of the pan to release the crescent ring, and remove the pan. Place a serving plate on top of the crescent ring and turn over again, so the crescent ring is right-side-up on the serving plate. Allow to cool 10 minutes before serving. Serve with ketchup and mustard if using.
