Cuban Calzones

Pillsbury® Grands!® frozen buttermilk or southern style biscuits (from 25-oz bag)
1 1/2
teaspoons yellow mustard
1 1/2
teaspoons mayonnaise or salad dressing
2
oz sliced pork (from deli)
2
oz sliced ham (from deli)
4
round dill pickle slices, well drained
2
tablespoons shredded Swiss cheese
1
egg, beaten
1/2
teaspoon dried minced onion

  • 1 Heat oven to 350°F. Spray cookie sheet with cooking spray.
  • 2 Place biscuits on microwavable plate. Microwave uncovered on Medium (50%) 30 to 45 seconds, turning over halfway through microwave time. (Biscuits should still be cold for easier handling.) Press and stretch each biscuit into 6-inch round.
  • 3 In small bowl, stir mustard and mayonnaise until smooth. Spread mustard mixture on each round to within 1/2 inch of edge. Arrange pork and ham slices over mustard mixture to within 1/2 inch of edge, folding if necessary. Top each round with two pickle slices; sprinkle with cheese. Brush egg around edge of biscuit rounds. Fold dough over filling; press edges with fork to seal. Brush with egg; sprinkle with onion.
  • 4 Bake 15 to 20 minutes or until golden brown.

I made these using the Grands Biscuits from a can, and they turned out great! Was actually easier because I didn't have to wait for the biscuits to thaw out. We replaced the pork with turkey, because the deli at our grocery store didn't have pork. My husband loved them, though, and he ate some as leftovers the next day for lunch :) The recipe was easy to follow and easy to prepare. Will definitely be doing these again!

We used biscuits from a can and for the pork (which is traditional in a Cuban) we used the thin sliced ham that comes in a baggie (Buddig meats). Each bag is 2 oz. These were great!

I used biscuits from a can, deli ham, bread & butter pickles, and the mustard-mayo mix. I was worried about being so lazy with it, but they turned out great! My boyfriend doesn't usually eat pickles, but he said they really enhanced the flavor. He was sad that I didn't make more of them!

I'm going to have to do it without the pork....I went to 3 deli's including one huge meats & more store, and no one carries "sliced precooked deli pork"!?!?!?

Used the frozen biscuits, thawed as directed but found the dough very difficult to handle. Got it right when I very lightly dusted with flour and used a rolling pin. Calzones were delicious. Will try again using crescent rolls.
