Pizza Crust FAQ's
How long can I store unopened cans of Pillsbury® Pizza Crust?

For best quality, use refrigerated dough before the “use-by” date on the package.

Where should I store the dough?

Store dough cans on a shelf in the refrigerator. Temperatures in the refrigerator’s door shelves or crisper may be too warm or too cold. Keep dough refrigerated until just before baking. Warm dough may be sticky and hard to handle.

What if I forget to refrigerate the dough?

Cans of dough that are left unrefrigerated for more than two hours should be discarded.

Can I use some of the dough now and save some for later?

Opening the can of dough activates the leavening that causes the dough to rise. After the can is open, the dough can be covered with plastic wrap and refrigerated for up to two hours before baking. After two hours, the dough will begin to deteriorate.

Can I freeze baked dough?

Yes! For best results, use within one month after freezing.

Can I microwave the unbaked dough?

Nope.  The uneven heat of a microwave prevents the dough from browning and baking through.

Can I bake refrigerated dough in a toaster oven?

No, we don't recommend it. A toaster oven’s small size often results in uneven heating, and the dough can burn.

Do I need to preheat the oven?

Yep, preheat the oven for 10 minutes before baking. This important step will help prevent the product from baking unevenly.

Do I need to prebake the crust before adding the toppings?

You don't have to prebake the crust.  However, prebaking will result in a crisper crust. Prebake the untopped crust at 400°F. for 7 minutes. Top with toppings. Bake at 400 degrees F. for 6 to 11 minutes more until the crust is light golden brown.

Can the pizza crust be baked on a baking stone or pizza stone?

It depends on the type of stone. We do not recommend using a pizza or baking stone that requires preheating before the assembled pizza is placed on it. The unbaked crust is too soft to lift once the toppings have been added. Pizza crust may be baked on a stone that does not require preheating. Follow the directions that came with the stone for baking time and temperature.

Can I freeze the unbaked dough?

Nope, freezing unbaked dough may prevent it from rising once it is baked.

How do I make a stuffed crust pizza?

It's simple:

  • Heat oven to 425 degrees F.

  • Unroll dough and press in bottom and one inch up the sides of a greased 13x9-inch pan.

  • Place seven sticks of string cheese along the inside edges of the dough. Fold dough around the cheese and press to seal.

  • Top with desired ingredients.

  • Bake at 425 degrees F. for 15 to 18 minutes, or until crust is golden brown and cheese is melted.
What if I cannot find my favorite Pillsbury® refrigerated dough product?

Pillsbury would like all stores to carry all our products. Unfortunately, this doesn’t always happen. We recommend you express your interest in a particular product to your local store manager.
