Directions

  • 1 Heat gas or charcoal grill. Cut 8 (12x12-inch) sheets of heavy-duty foil. Spread cut sides of buns with mustard-mayonnaise spread.
  • 2 On bottom halves of buns, layer cheese, salami, turkey and bell pepper. Cover with top halves of buns. Place sandwiches on foil. Wrap each packet securely using double-fold seals, allowing room for heat expansion.
  • 3 Place packets on grill. Cover grill; cook over medium heat 8 to 10 minutes or until thoroughly heated. Carefully open packets to allow steam to escape.

Follow this recipe for, "Hoagie Sandwiches on the Grill", to teach Boy Scouts how to make these sandwhiches when upon a camp out with a campfire. It will also be a good item to teach their own family members "how to do at home, for their own favorite final Hoagies" on the grill. The boys family will need to fix salads and desserts to go with their sandwiches. It's a great opportunity to use fresh Hoagies (using fresh fruit and vegetables from their own backyard gardens). This is a teaching tool of the 'cooking meals with aluminum foil' chapter, in the 'Cooking for Advancement' BSA Handbo

Smoked turkey would be better, however it's hard to keep lit.
