Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • Dash salt
  • 2/3 cup water
  • 2 cups sweet cherries, pitted, halved
  • 2 tablespoons kirsch or 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 pkg. fat-free brownies, cut into 6 pieces
  • 3 cups nonfat vanilla ice cream

Steps

    In medium saucepan, combine sugar, cornstarch, salt and water. Cook over medium heat until mixture thickens, stirring constantly. Stir in cherries. Reduce heat to low; cook 3 to 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat; stir in kirsch.*

    To serve, place brownies on individual dessert plates. Top each with 1/2 cup ice cream. Spoon warm cherry sauce over ice cream. Serve immediately.

    Fat-free brownies are available at many bakeries or in the health food section of your grocery store.

    * To flame dessert, omit kirsch from sauce. Just before serving, top brownies with ice cream. Place kirsch in small long-handled pan; heat just until warm. Ignite; pour over cherry sauce. Spoon flaming cherry sauce over ice cream.
