I''ve been eating Mom''s Oatmeal Carmelitas ever since the recipe first appeared in the 1967 Bake-Off cookbook and they remain my favorite baked treat to this day. There''s something about the combination of gooey caramel and dense chocolate, when offset by the slight nuttiness of the oatmeal, that makes for an enduring classic. Make these for yourself and your family and they''ll fast become a tradition at your house, too.

This recipe is awesome!! I didn''t add the chocolate chips, and it still came out great. Made them for a family party and everyone hung around the dessert table and couldn''t just stop at 1! I had to email the recipe to everyone the next day.

WOW! These were great and quit a hit with the entire family! They couldn''t get enough and I enjoy the fact that they aren''t hard to make, either. You could add a little coconut but then it would be a flavor more along the lines of a "hello dolly" bar and there isn''t really a need.

These cookies were easy to make and taste delicious. I plan to add them to my Christmas cookie list. My five year old son said, "I don''t like them mom.....I love them!" I guess that says it all.

I have made this recipe many times, and it is always a huge hit! It travels well, freezes well, and has all the flavors my family and friends love! Perfect!
