Caramel Apple Skillet Pizza

can (17.5 oz) Pillsbury® Grands!® caramel rolls
2
medium apples, peeled, thinly sliced
1/4
cup sugar
1/2
teaspoon ground cinnamon

Directions

  • 1 Heat oven to 350°F. Spray 12-inch cast-iron skillet with cooking spray.
  • 2 Unroll caramel rolls into strips (set container of caramel sauce aside). Cut strips in half; place in skillet, covering bottom of skillet and cutting into smaller pieces as necessary to fit. Press seams to seal.
  • 3 In medium bowl, toss apples with sugar and cinnamon. Arrange apples on dough in skillet.
  • 4 Bake 30 minutes or until apples are tender when pierced with fork.
  • 5 Remove lid from container of caramel sauce; microwave on High 10 seconds. Drizzle caramel sauce over apples. Let stand 10 minutes. Cut into wedges; serve warm.

We-liked-this-recipe,but-made-a-couple-additions.-We-added-some-pecans-to-the-apple-mixture-and-then-finished-off-by-adding-a-layer-of-mild-cheddar-cheese-to-the-top-and-placing-under-the-broiler-for-a-few-minutes.-Yummy-dessert-to-finish-off-our-beef-vegetable-soup-on-this-cold-evening.-Hubby-even-added-a-scoop-of-vanilla-bean-ice-cream.

I suspect that a pizza pan or a cookie sheet would work if you don't have a cast iron skillet. Personally, I can't live without mine. I have collection in various sizes and shapes, some were purchased, some handed down. They are really inexpensive and definitely something to watch for at yard/garage sales and thrift shops.

@Kathy, The non-stick skillet will only work if it's oven-proof (including the handle). That's why they recommend the cast iron. But if I were to make this, I would simply use a pie plate or a square baking dish. I'm sure whatever you normally use for baking will work just fine, doesn't necessarily have to go in a skillet. i don't have a cast iron skillet...so will a regular non stick pan work for this recipe ??
