Directions

  • 1 Heat oven to 375°F. In medium bowl, mix ground beef, bread crumbs, onion, ketchup, mustard and salt. Press mixture in bottom and up sides of ungreased 9-inch pie plate. Bake 15 minutes.
  • 2 In medium saucepan, place water, butter and garlic salt. Heat to boiling. Remove from heat. Add milk. With fork, stir in potato flakes. Stir in 1/2 cup of the cheese.
  • 3 Remove partially baked beef crust from oven; pour off any drippings. Spoon potato mixture evenly into crust. Return to oven; bake 10 to 15 minutes longer or until beef is thoroughly cooked and thermometer placed in center of crust reads 160°F, and potatoes are hot.
  • 4 Remove pie from oven. Top with tomato, remaining 1/2 cup cheese and crumbled bacon; bake 5 minutes longer or until cheese is melted. Remove from oven; top with green onions. Let stand 10 minutes before serving.

EXPERT TIPS

Expert Tips

If you use extra-lean ground beef, you will have fewer drippings to pour off and less chance for spill-over in the oven.

To follow through with the cheeseburger flavors, serve dill pickles and sliced tomatoes with the pie.

This is a great recipe simple. hearty and different from plain old meatloaf I used american cheese as my husband doesn't care for cheddar and he said it was awesome and it was a keeper

Would spice up the ground beef more, maybe add jalepenos, chili powder next time, was reminiscent of a meatloaf, but very good. Would make it again, and again and change up ingredients for variations! Was a hit in our house!

This was awesome! Added some other stuff to the meat to make it more "Hamburger" tasting (ie: A-1, bbq sauce, and steak seasoning) Garlic Potatoes, Chipotle Cheddar! Everyone loved it! :)

PhotoQueen88 - pickles ? ? ? Am I missing something good ? ?

We both loved this! I like to try new recipes, and my picky husband doesn't always like everything...he loved this. Since he doesn't care for any form of pickles, I put the pickles on one side of the pie, and we both got what we wanted! Will make again and again...
