About 1 1/2 cups assorted colored sugars or candy decors

Directions

  • 1 Heat oven to 400°F. In large bowl, stir sugar, butter, shortening and eggs with spoon until mixed. Stir in flour, cream of tartar, baking soda and salt.
  • 2 Shape dough by rounded teaspoonfuls into balls. Roll balls in colored sugar until coated. On ungreased cookie sheet, place balls about 2 inches apart.
  • 3 Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until centers are almost set. Cool 1 minute; remove from cookie sheet to wire rack.

I have never written a review before but this recipe compels me to do so. These are the best soft, cakey cookies I have ever tasted! I made them Saturday night for Mother's Day. I got about 5 or 6 dozen out of the recipe and they were about half gone by the next day! (My husband and I ate them.) All were gone by Sunday night. The family loved them!!! I made them just like the recipe and added vanilla to them. How wonderful! THANK YOU THIS EXCELLENT RECIPE!!
