I thought they turned out well and were well liked and will make again.I cant believe how petty people are..If you object to the ingredients or the name just close the window. Pillsbury and websites like this are generally for those looking for quick and easy recipes. If you want healthy dont expect to find it on Pillsbury. If you want authentic there are many sites out there which give recipes for the cake you are comparing these to.

I doubled the recipe and used the peppermint sugar cookie dough instead of the plain sugar cookie dough.I increased the bake time and used standard cup cake liners and tin. This made 2 dozen. I did not add the chocolate candies to the top. Instead, I frosted the tops. As a treat for my son's second grade teacher, I cut her initials out of a 'sugar sheet', and placed each on top of two cupcakes. Cute valentine's surprise!

I'm always amazed at the picky people who post reviews. The recipe is either too salty or too many calories or something - like this is not a real RED VELVET recipe. Please. Who cares what it's called? It's a delicious recipe. Period and we all liked it at my house.

AuntL.. although I certainly understand your point (and some recipes I have seen use sour cream instead of vinegar and buttermilk to get the distinct taste you mention), most of us that are using the recipes from Pillsbury.com are using them because they are quick, simple and good, not because of the name. I have not tried them, but will. They look cute, simple and delicious, perfect for a party or kids.

The distinct flavor of Red Velvet is buttermilk, vinegar and a smidge of chocolate.
