Italian Ground Turkey Rolls

Ingredients

teaspoon vegetable oil

lb lean (at least 90%) ground turkey

medium onion, chopped (1/2 cup)

to 4 cloves garlic, finely chopped

jar (48 oz) chunky garden vegetable tomato pasta sauce

can (6 oz) tomato paste

French rolls (6 inch), split

slices (1 1/2 oz each) mozzarella cheese, halved

Directions

  1. 1 In 10-inch nonstick skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat until hot. Cook turkey, onion and garlic in oil 6 to 8 minutes, stirring frequently, until turkey is well browned; drain.
  2. 2 In 3 1/2- to 4-quart slow cooker, mix cooked turkey mixture, pasta sauce and tomato paste.
  3. 3 Cover; cook on Low heat setting 4 to 5 hours or on High heat setting 2 hours.
  4. 4 To serve, spoon 1/2 cup turkey mixture onto bottom halves of rolls. Top each with half slice of cheese, cutting to fit. Cover with top halves of rolls.
