Steps

  • 1 Heat oven to 425°F. In 8-inch skillet, cook sausage over medium-high heat 6 to 8 minutes, stirring occasionally until thoroughly cooked; drain well. Stir in garlic powder and 1/4 cup of the pizza sauce.
  • 2 Remove 1 crust from pouch. On work surface, roll into 13-inch round. With 3-inch round cutter, cut 11 rounds. Repeat with second crust.
  • 3 Spoon about 1 teaspoon sausage mixture onto each round. Fold each in half; seal edges with fork. Cut small slit in top of each with sharp knife. Place on ungreased large cookie sheet. Brush each foldover with beaten egg. If desired, cut decorative shapes from remaining dough and attach with beaten egg.

Expert Tips

Flaky Sausage Foldovers can be assembled ahead, making them a great option for holiday parties. Just follow the recipe through step 3. Freeze the foldovers on the cookie sheet until firm, then transfer to a resealable freezer plastic bag. Label with a "use by" date two months after the preparation date. To serve, remove the desired number of appetizers from the bag and bake as directed in step 4, adding about 5 minutes, until the foldovers are golden brown. Since a portion of the pizza sauce is used in the filling and the rest as a dip, purchase pizza sauce in the squeezable container, and keep it in the refrigerator.
