Purchased salsa varies as to its ingredients but usually includes tomatoes, onion, chile peppers and cilantro; the texture can range from quite smooth to distinctively chunky.
To make your own guacamole, mash the flesh of a ripe avocado together with lemon or lime juice, minced onion and diced jalapeños or hot pepper sauce. Mash it with a fork for a chunky texture or process it in a blender or food processor for a smoother dip.
Crush the tortilla chips in a heavy plastic bag with a rolling pin or in a food processor with a metal blade.
