I don’t know what’s gotten into me. I’m hosting way too many parties this holiday season. I’m stressed, my husband is stressed, and yet our deranged inclination is to invite people over to make merriment out of the mayhem.
I’m sure the only thing that keeps me from going totally nuts is my hosting credo of ease and abundance. Basically, keep it simple and make sure there’s enough. Sometimes it’s hard to “keep it easy,” though. The question of what to serve can send me into a weeklong tailspin that I don’t have the time for. To save you the trouble, I’m offering up three of my favorite appetizer-cocktail combos. Put these in your rotation, and you’ll have a party in your back pocket at all times.
BUBBLES + ROSEMARY CASHEWS
Entertaining goddess Ina Garten is the master of simplicity. She never bothers with the hard stuff because she knows successful parties are more about connection and conviviality than crazy complex canapés. Her rosemary cashews with a kick of cayenne pair beautifully with anything sparkly. Since I’m rarely in the mood to splurge, I usually opt for inexpensive-but-still-delish options such as Prosecco or Cava.
HOPPY BEER + GREEN CHILE QUESO WITH BREADSTICKS
I don’t know what it is, but oh my gosh, do I love a good Manhattan. This classic cocktail is a mix of bourbon or whiskey and sweet vermouth with a dash of bitters. A serious drink like this one goes best with something hearty, like these Bacon-Cheddar Pinwheels. Your friends will love dropping by for Mannies and Pinnies!
