Ready to roll up your sleeves and churn out all the Christmas treats in a single epic day of baking? For some it’s an annual tradition, for others it’s a fun new challenge; for us, it’s a day of making and baking memories, one recipe at a time.
For a successful and fun day of baking, it’s important to do a little preplanning. There’s nothing worse than being halfway through a batch of peppermint sugar cookies and realizing you don’t have any peppermint extract, or finding out you don’t have enough containers to store your goodies in after they’re baked.
So first of all, plan out the recipes you plan to make. Next, make a list of all the ingredients needed. Pro tip: This a good time to check expiration dates on pantry staples like baking powder, baking soda, spices and extracts. If you need to replace or replenish a few items, the good news is that they’re easy to find on sale this time of year.
And is your whole family or group of friends getting in on your bake day? Plan ahead so everyone has a job (and the space to do it!).
Also consider the order you’ll be making things. Do some recipes call for time to allow dough to chill or rest? Are there any time-saving shortcuts you can make? For example, if you’re making multiple frosted cookie recipes, consider baking all of the cookies at once, then frosting all in one go.
Last, but not least, double check that you have all the equipment needed, including cookie sheets, cooling racks, wax paper or parchment paper, treat bags if you’re packaging up gifts, and containers for storing.
Now it’s time to start planning your day. From cookies to barks and fudge to pie, we have every recipe you need, plus tips on how to do it all. Let’s bake some memories!
