Smoked Ham Sandwich with Honey-Butter How-To

Smoked Ham Sandwich with Honey-Butter
An easy and fast way to make your own sub sandwich with fresh- baked bread.
By Gerry Speirs

There’s no denying life can get busy, especially on the weekends. That’s why I usually make up a big family-size sandwich to take to our softball matches or soccer practice.

I’m a firm believer in using good bread, it’s the first thing you taste and it makes all the difference. Lately I’ve been using Pillsbury’s Simply Rustic French Bread. Just bake it up and you can be stuffing it with tasty fillings in less than an hour. This smoked ham sandwich is complimented by a generous slather of sweet honey butter.

Making your own sandwiches also comes in handy at party time. Instead of buying huge and expensive catering trays, just make your own and slice them on the smaller side. Your friends will be amazed that they didn’t come from a famous sandwich chain!

To make the honey butter, mix the softened butter with the honey in the bowl of a stand mixer. Beat together for about one minute and set aside.

Place the bread on a baking tray and cut three deep slices across the top. Bake as directed in a preheated oven for about 25 minutes.

Once the bread is baked, slice it along the side with a sharp serrated bread knife. Open it up and spread one side of it with the honey butter.

Start to build the sandwich by placing the sliced smoked ham on top of the honey butter, followed by the sliced tomato and avocado. Season with salt. Slice the sandwich in half or quarters if preferred.
