We’re all pressed for time during the holidays. Sometimes you want to make a sweet and simple dessert that’s quick and looks like more work than it is. These Caramel and Pretzel Cookies certainly fit that bill! By adding caramel candies and pretzels to Pillsbury sugar cookies, you have a new twist on an old favorite — fast!

Caramel and Pretzel Cookies

You only need a few ingredients for this easy, but impressive cookie: sugar cookie dough, pretzels, chocolate caramel candies and a topping of your choice, like your favorite candy pieces or nuts. (Pecans are a huge hit in my house!)

Pillsbury sugar cookie dough, pretzels, caramel and chocolate candy

Start by baking some Pillsbury sugar cookies. You don’t want them to be too big, so cut half-inch slices off the roll of dough, then cut each slice into quarters. Though they’re small balls of cookie dough, they will still spread quite a bit while baking, so be sure to place them two inches apart on your cookie sheet.

Place cookies on a baking sheet

Bake the cookies at 350°F for seven minutes, or until the edges just start to golden. (Don’t worry – you’ll finish baking the cookies after assembling them.) Top each cookie with a pretzel and a chocolate caramel candy. Then put the cookie sheet back in the oven for three minutes to melt the candy.

Immediately after removing the tray from the oven, place a colorful candy or pecan half on top of the melted chocolate caramel candy. Push slightly so the caramel candy collapses a bit.

Let the cookies completely cool before stacking; that way the chocolate will have hardened. If you need them to cool quickly, pop the tray into the refrigerator. Then package them up as gifts or simply enjoy these sweet treats with your family!
