STEP ONE: PREPARE DOUGH Unroll the dough; press into 14x10-inch rectangle. Mix the cheese and pepper in a small bowl; sprinkle over the dough. Using a sheet of waxed paper, lightly press cheese mixture into dough. STEP TWO: CUT DOUGH Cut dough in half lengthwise; then into 1-inch strips. There should be 28 strips total. STEP THREE: SHAPE DOUGH Gently twist each strip of dough three to four times; place twists on waxed paper. STEP FOUR: ADD FINISHING MIXTURE Brush each twist with baking soda and water mixture. Let stand for five minutes, then brush with beaten egg. Place twists 1/2-inch apart on cookie sheet. Bake.
