Question: does this make two crustinis using both pie shells from the box?

Absolutely fantastic!! Made this for Christmas Eve and everyone loved it! Triple a-1 rating, very easy to make. Will be adding this to my regular app rotation.

I picked this recipe to have as an appetizer during Thanksgiving. I baked it for the first time today in anticipation of baking it it a few days. It was absolutely the most unique appetizer that I have seen in a long time! The only thing I did different was use pecans instead of sunflower seeds, only because I didn't have the seeds on hand. It's creamy texture and just the right amount of everything is wonderful. This is an appetizer worthy of being served at my Thanksgiving meal! This is really an elegant appetizer that can be served for any party or event. I can't wait to see what my guests have to say about this. I will be serving this many time in my up coming events. Thanks Pillsbury - Great job with this one!

I made this omitting the sunflower kernals; my husband loved it.

Good taste, good appearance...but I had trouble with the bottom crust not being baked in the designated time, something I didn't discover until I already began to cut it. I had to put it back in the oven for an additional 15 minutes, and even though I put some foil lightly over it, the top was overdone. Not sure it would be worth making again for this reason.

I made this crustini again for a Mother's Day Brunch. Big hit! They wanted to know where the recipe came from. They could not believe that it was a Pillsbury pie crust that I used. It was a huge success. The recipe is very easy to follow with excellent results. This is my 4th time making it in 5 months. The creativity in this recipe is truly something uniquely different. If you don't like pesto, don't use this recipe because you do pick up on the nice Italian flavors throughout this dish. If you don't like sunflower seeds, fine. Omitt them or use another nut like the more traditional pine nut or pecan. I think the person who made this dish up was probably going for a fusion blend flavor. Sorry this didn't win. You had my vote and I will continue to serve this at any event possible.

Hey gang-o-rama, y'all's reviews really got me excited about this recipe, but I just wasn't able to duplicate your results. Maybe I'm just not a pesto kind of person, but it didn't thrill me hot or cold, and the sunflower seeds were an unpleasant addition, so I'd leave them out. I had some trouble trying to figure out when the crust was baked through, so I put the cheese on too soon and it browned too much. Surprisingly, my picky eater son said some of the layers tasted good. I guess if I tried again, I'd experiment with the ingredients of the "layers."

O.k. I just made this and I am about ready to take the first bite. I am biting through the vegetable layer, cream cheese layer and crust. OH MY, this is really good. I love the flavor explosion going on in my mouth. This is heavenly! Since this is a Pillsbury contest, you can clearly taste the pillsbury products. The crust is light and flaky. The spinach is very nicely complimented with the tomato and pesto. The hint of smokey flavor in the cheese is excellent. Everything blends so well! I noticed that this has 2 Pillsbury products but others only have 1. I don't know if that has any bearing on this contest. But, the pie crust and spinach are taken to a new level in this recipe. I do have to say that the ingredients were readily available at my Walmart store and it took me about 10-15 minutes preparing it. I'm enjoying my second piece and my family is now trying it. My son has never tried spinach before, hey, he's eating it now! I highly recommend this recipe.

This is a hot trend-setting appetizer! Made it last night for a gathering. It was enjoyed by all and very quickly I might add. I picked up the Bake-Off book in the store the other day and was thumbing through for some great recipes to try. This is one of the few appetizers that I will make. I am a diabetic and really watch the sugars and starches. This is one of the few appetizers that I can eat. Many of the other ones have a huge amount of starch(bread)and sugar from jams and jellys. I substituted a lower fat cream cheese instead of the regular and it turned out really nice. I don't think it compromised on the flavor at all. The ingredients are pure, refreshing and wonderful. They all sing in harmony together. I highly recommend this appetizer to everyone.

LOVE IT! If Pillsbury is looking for a well-round, easy to make, common ingredients, eye catching, unique, and wide appeal recipe, they found it! I do not like to spend a lot of time making something to eat. This really is quick! Many of the appetizers featured for this current bake-off you have to make individually. No thanks! I don't have the time for that. This is refreshing because you don't have to make this into individual portions. Much quicker to make and bake. That's what appealed to me about this recipe. I made it today and served it as a snack for my kids when they came home from school. It's hard to find something quick, hot and nutritious for the kids. Then after the kids ate their share, it was mom & dad's turn to finish it off. I loved the crust and I never knew that a refrigerated pie crust could taste so light and flaky. Past experiences with crusts have never yielded such a great textured product. The combination of spinach and tomato, what's not to like about that! This appetizer definitely needs to be considered for any party or quick after school snack. I would highly recommend this recipe and it's a winner in my family's eyes.
