I made this cake for a pirate party and it was a hit! The kids and even the adults could not believe how nice it came out! And it was easier than I thought. Gold wrapped coins and gummy octupus placed on and around the trunk worked perfectly!

I made this for a pirate party where I also provided a rum cake from the carribean, & store bought cupcakes which were an emergency solution when someone could not recognize it was a treasure chest cake and I got embarrassed to show it. In the end people did recognize it the house and insisted I bring it out...it was the most requested of the 3 desserts! (I forgot the freezing step so it took a beating during the frosting phase making it harder to recognize.) But it was YUMMY and easy even with whatever shiny wrapped chocolates I happened to find! p.s. Fruit Gushers=tangy rubies & emeralds.
