My grandmother used to make these when I was a kid but I haven't had or thought about them in years until I came across this recipe. It was the first time I personally made them and they are time consuming but a great filling dish.
I really feel that the recipe deserved 3 1/2 stars instead of 4. I made it just as stated except for adding 1/2 tsp of garlic powder with the meat mixture. Everyone thought it needed additional flavor and more rice. But overall it was good.

I have made these for years! A very popular item at the deer lease. Makes up well with tomatoes with chiles and venison. I very seldom have any for testing the next day.

So delicious and filling. A little time consuimg, so save if for a night when you're not over scheduled or tired. I'm a vegetarian so I substituted the beef for Morningstar Farms® Meal Starters™ Grillers® Recipe Crumbles™. I'll definately be making these again.
