The reason they puffed up so much is because pillsbury's sugar cookie dough always does that. My kids use it to make their Christmas cookies to decorate and they never keep the shape from the cookie cutters. I would suggest using another brand's cookie dough for this recipe.

Unless you want huge puffs of dough with no recognizable shape I would modify this recipe by adding flour. You have to play with the amt and why they don't tell you this I cannot figure out. Last spring I tried to make bunny cookies and they puffed up to ghost buster size.
