Made this yesterday afternoon. Perhaps I did not bake it long enough. It tastes a little gummy. And I would have liked it sweeter. The nuts in the bottom crust taste good. My husband likes it, probably because it is not so sweet.

I got this in my Pillsbury cookbook from 1981. I've been making it for years. I don't use nuts, and when I make it, people always ask me for the recipe. I wish Pillsbury made their full cookbooks, again--I have so many favorites from that book.

This truly is a family favorite. Use caution making the bottom crust, keep it on the thin side. We grate the apples for a moister cake - it's not fall at our house until you start to smell this one baking!

I have made this apple square many times over the years. It is the best. Everybody loves them.
