EXPERT TIPS

Expert Tips

Liquid smoke is natural smoke flavor captured in water sprayed over burning mesquite or hickory wood. The smoky-flavored water is purified and seasoned with a bit of molasses and vinegar before it is bottled. Look for it near the condiments (mustard, ketchup, barbecue sauce) in the grocery store.

This snack mix tastes just as good at room temperature as it does warm; prepare the recipe in advance and let it cool completely. Seal the mix in an airtight container for up to three days.

Children notice and appreciate cute details: Use fish-shaped cheese crackers to make the snack mix fun.

I've used this recipe for years. I keep a crockpot at work for this. They come running while it heats up, wanting to know what smells so delicious. I serve at parties, have never had anyone not like this. We all like the smoky smell and flavor. My son even makes it for any friends gathering he may have. It's a favorite, go-to recipe for my family. The combination of the seasoning, the crunch of the crackers and the aroma makes it a great snack. Especially with bloody marys!

2 Tblsp of Liquid Smoke? Description say a few drops/recipe calls for 2 Tblsp. I should have known better. Smelled Awful while in crock pot. Glad I was able to open the windows. Waste of money. Was an expensive lesson. Will have to throw out. Hope this recipe is corrected, if not, don't waste your time.
