Ingredients

  • 2 cups chunky marinara sauce
  • 8 ounces fresh mozzarella cheese, cubed
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil leaves
  • 2 loaves (10 ounces each) baguette-style French bread, cut into 96 slices (about 1/2 inch thick), toasted

Steps

  • 1
Pour marinara sauce into 1 1/2-quart slow cooker.
  • 2
Cover and cook on Low heat setting about 2 hours or until hot.
  • 3
Stir in cheese and basil. Cover and cook on Low heat setting 30 minutes or until cheese is just starting to melt. Serve with baguette slices.

  • For an adventurous change of flavor, try using goat cheese instead of the fresh mozzarella.
  • Garnish the warm appetizer with fresh basil leaves.
  • Fresh mozzarella is not the same as the regular mozzarella that we usually purchase. It has a mild flavor and much softer texture than its more common relative. You'll usually find the fresh variety in the deli or specialty cheese area of the store.
