Casual entertaining is easy with hot pork sandwiches prepared in the slow cooker.

Ingredients

1/2-lb pork shoulder roast, trimmed of fat

tablespoon chili powder

tablespoon red pepper sauce
1
can (14.5 oz) Mexican-style diced tomatoes, undrained
10
kaiser rolls
10
slices (3/4 oz each) Monterey Jack cheese with jalapeño peppers
10
leaves lettuce

slices tomato

Steps

  • 1 In 3- to 4-quart slow cooker, place pork. Sprinkle with chili powder and pepper sauce. Pour tomatoes over pork.
  • 2 Cover; cook on Low heat setting 8 to 10 hours.
  • 3 Remove pork from cooker; place on cutting board. Shred pork, using 2 forks; discard bones. Return pork to cooker and mix well. Using slotted spoon to remove pork mixture from cooker, fill each roll with 1/2 cup pork mixture. Top with cheese, lettuce and tomato.

Expert Tips

For a party, place the rolls in a basket and arrange the toppings on a large platter so guests can top their sandwiches as they like.

Don't have the Mexican-style tomatoes? Use a 14.5-ounce can of plain diced tomatoes and a 4.5-ounce can of Old El Paso® chopped green chiles instead.
