Garbanzo beans in chili? Genius! Come home to a sausage and ground beef chickpea chili simmered all day. Thanks to a slow cooker (one of our favorite kitchen gadgets!), this chickpea chili recipe comes together with just 20 minutes of prep. Easy and delicious!

Ingredients

  • 1 lb lean (at least 80%) ground beef
  • 1/2 lb bulk Italian pork sausage
  • 1 medium onion, chopped (about 1/2 cup)
  • 1 can (28 oz) Muir Glen™ organic diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 2 cans (8 oz each) Muir Glen™ organic tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 to 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 2 teaspoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano leaves
  • 1 can (15 oz) spicy chili beans, undrained
  • 2 cups Progresso™ chickpeas (garbanzo beans), drained, rinsed (from 19-oz can)
  • Sour cream, if desired
  • Sliced green onions, if desired

Steps

    In 10-inch skillet, cook beef, sausage and onion over medium-high heat 5 to 7 minutes, stirring frequently, until beef is thoroughly cooked; drain.

    In 3 1/2- to 4-quart slow cooker, mix beef mixture with all remaining ingredients except sour cream and green onions.

    Cover; cook on Low setting 7 to 8 hours.

    Top individual servings with sour cream and green onions.
