Expert Tips

For best results, work with well-chilled dough. While you shape one portion, keep the remaining dough refrigerated.

Coarse sugar and edible glitter give these gingerbread children extra sparkle.

These large cookies leave lots of room for artistic expression. Walk slowly through grocery store candy aisle to inspire sweet ideas for facial features and clothing. Remember that soft candy can be cut and shaped. A thin slice of miniature peppermint patty, for example, can be nudged into a perfect eye; trim the round end from a small blue or green jelly bean for the "iris."

It's fun to decorate these cookies to resemble the people on your gift list. Braces, glasses, a beauty mark or jewelry bring gingerbread friends to life. Make these details with licorice whip decorator gel and small decorator candies.
