More About This Recipe

  • Though the two terms seem to be used interchangeably these days, there are those that argue that there is a slight difference between scalloped potatoes and potatoes au gratin. The key? The cheese. Traditionally, it’s said that scalloped potatoes are baked in a creamy sauce, while au gratin adds the cheesy component. While there are a lot of scalloped potatoes recipes that call for cheese nowadays, this recipe keeps things simple. The potatoes are thinly sliced and baked in a creamy sauce, but gets a little flavor boost, not from cheese, but from ham and tomatoes instead. This ham and tomato recipe may be your new favorite way to eat scalloped potatoes, but if you want to try them the cheesy way or baked with other ingredients like pork chops, head right this way to see all of our easiest scalloped potato recipes.
