I was planning on making these for a shower ... good thing I tried a batch before I committed ... the cake part was really dry, which was a let down after all the time it took to make them. The idea is good ... really disappointed.

It says to melt caramels and whipped cream but doesn't say anything about the frosting. When do you add the frosting?

These are decadent and delicious! I've made them a few times now and I find that I have a better finished product if I use a melon baller and remove the top center, fill with carmamel filling and replace. Let this cool before icing. I also use a very coarse salt to sprinkle on top. The sweet/salty combination is delicious.
