Made this last night for my hubby. IF I ever make it again, I would add a can of veg-all (drained) to the soup as I felt that it didn't have enough vegetables. It also didn't have enough meat, so I would use leftover roast in this recipe as well. The beer taste was too strong so I would us wine instead of beer. Over all, even though this recipe was easy to make, the taste just wasn't there. I could see where this has potential, however with some tweaking, this recipe could work, but as is, it doesn't work at all.

I will make a couple of changes in reference to this recipe when I attempt it. I wouldn't use beer I would probably substitue wine, there aren't too many recipes that call for beer and use it to enhance flavor. I assume that the first layer of mashed potatoes is to keep the pie crust from becoming soggy I may use that but will probably find a better way to do so. I would probably choose the use of a homemade soup or like someone else said use this recipe as a helper to use leftover soup.

Made this last night for dinner. Would not make again. The recipe was easy enough to follow...just not good. My kids would not eat it. First of all the soup had very little to any meat and the beer flavor was a little overwelming and I thought it was a little bitter tasting. Might try making again but using left over stew or maybe chunky soup and omitting the beer.

I agree. Could someone review the recipe ? Do I take the trouble to make it ? One helpful person said it was yummy. Any others ?

I haven't made this recipe yet but after reading the reviews, I think I'll try it and will make sure to never ask for any directions on here since the comments have been negative and mean. Don't see the need for the rude feedback. This is after all just a website for recipes, jeez!

the stout beer made the recipe bitter, and yes the ingredient list is initially confusing until you read through the whole recipe. This recipe is not worth the effort.

wow! thank you kindly for putting me in my place. perhaps you should get out the crayons and draw me a picture, by the way- green is my favorite color.. and thank you for ensuring that i do not leave another comment good or otherwise- see if i ask for clarification again- guess i'll hire myself a cook.

why would anyone think this recipe is confusing? It clearly states unroll pie crust"s" on 2 cookie sheets - meaning you will have 2 pies and spoon 1 cup of prepared mashed potatoes onto "each" crust - thus 2 cups of prepared mashed potatoes being used. Geez maybe someone needs to get out the crayon and draw a picture. By the way the recipe was great.

@LMN1104 and any one else who "can't see where the "extra" potatoes come from.... Really? The recipe clearly calls for 2 cups PREPARED mashed potatoes, AND the DRY potato flakes to be mixed into the soup and beer.So before placing the blame on the recipe...REREAD it one more time!Measure and place the DRY potatoes in one bowl and then,in a separate bowl, place the PREPARED MASHED potatoes listed in the ingredients. Put the two bowls side by side next to each other. Now do you see where the "extra" potatoes being spread in the crust came from?
