Directions

  • 1 Heat oven to 375°F. Spray large cookie sheet with cooking spray. In small bowl, mix mustard and apricot preserves; set aside.
  • 2 Unroll dough on work surface; press into 12x8-inch rectangle. Cut crosswise into 16 (8-inch) strips; roll each into 11-inch rope. To shape pretzel, shape rope into a circle, overlapping dough about 2 inches from each end, leaving ends free. Take 1 end in each hand; twist once at point where dough overlaps. Lift ends over opposite side of circle. Brush each with melted butter. Sprinkle with salt. Place on cookie sheet.
  • 3 Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from cookie sheet. Serve warm with mustard mixture.

Oh, and also they were crunchy! That's not the way I want a "soft pretzel" like you get at a ball game! UGH!

I was NOT impressed nor was any of my family! These simply tasted like salty crescent rolls--not yummy and chewy like a soft pretzel is supposed to be! I had printed this recipe out to use, but threw it away, because I will never make these again!

I was actually hoping to have them look like the ones in your picture, full and large and I thought they would be more like the ones purchased at a vender for bakery treats. I was not mush impressed. Taste wise, okay, but it wasn't worth heating up my oven for and by the way, you will need two baking sheets not one as that amount will not fit on one like in the directions.

To make this taste more like the store brand of pretzel, you need to dip the dough already shaped as a pretzel into a bath of baking soda then sprinkle with the course salt. Reserve the butter for after the pretzels are baked. This is how "Auntie Anne's" pretzels are prepared.
