We loved this the first time so making it again. Using frozen peppers and onions with canned mushrooms, for that is all I had on hand. Also using velvetta both times for we enjoy the taste, even my 5 yr old likes it.

Add your own Cream cheese to the mix Makes it more delicious and a little cheesier.

Being from Philly, I can truly say provolone cheese is NOT a Philly cheese on a steak sandwich. Its Cheezewhiz or velveeta. I am pleased with this recipe and will make it for my family.

LuckyJosie: Everyone is different. I know many who use provolone. But I can only think your idea of PHILLY CHEESE is probably velveeta which if that is the case feel free. The doughboy or cheese police will not harrass you if you decide to change what kind is used.

Lucky Josie, I thought the same thing, thinking the dish would have Philly Cream Cheese in it. But I think the Philly Cheese part of the name refers to the dish tasting like a Philly Cheesesteak sandwich with the same basic ingredients in a casserole and using ground beef instead of steak.

Made this using frozen peppers and onions and mozzarella cheese as that is what I had on hand. Still turned out delicious. Next time I want to cut recipe in half as I'm only cooking for me and my dog and cat. I have a single neighbor who loves it when I make large recipes and she loved this ine, too. Will be making this a lot.
