These bars were absolutely delicious. I followed the recipe just as it said, except used the light Karo syrup instead of the dark, because that is what I had on hand. My son is a big fan of pecan pie, so I new he would like these too. He loved them and he plans on making them for our Christmas get together. Great recipe. We will be using this one for a long time.

I would suggest dipping your fingers in flour before pressing the crust mixture into the pan. Mine stuck to my fingers until I applied the four, then it worked like a charm. Great recipe!

My husbands grandmother is Pearl Hall. She and her husband, Willie, have both passed away, and every Christmas we make these and remember them both. The story of her winning the Bake-Off Contest 40 years ago, is still a story told often!
Sincerely,
Kristin Hall (wife of Doug Hall)

These bars are wonderful!!! I have made them twice in a week for different parties. They are so easy to make and taste wonderful! I did not have dk corn syrup for the second batch, I only had light corn syrup and the turned out perfect!

Our family loves these, and will make these again. Very often too.

LOVED these!!! I baked these for a teacher luncheon, and was in a rush. I accidently dumped my pecans into my corn syrup mixture. So I went ahead and sprinkled another 1/2 cup of pecans on top. Incredibly good!!! I think it cut some of the sweetness, but it had a great texture and flavor. Next time I'll try following the recipe and see which I like better.

These were very yummy and very easy to make. I would suggest to add maybe a 1/2 cup more pecans. Also make sure when you put the crust in the pan to spred it up the sides of the pan to make sure the crust isn't too thick. I would definitely make these again. :)

This has become a favorite during the Christmas season. When you have a few who enjoy pecan pie, this recipe is great! Cut into bars, they last in the fridge and make great gifts as well.

I am proud to say that Pearl Hall was may aunt and a fantastic cook. This recipe has been a family favorite since she won the bake-off. I had misplaced this fantastic recipe and am really happy to see it on this website.
When she rote this recipe in 1970, the instant cake mix was different and the bars came out much more firm. The change in the cake mix to make them more moist has made the bars a bit more gooey but still great.
Enjoy! Pearl would be proud to know that people are still enjoying her recipe 40 years later.
