Peanut Butter Cup Bars

Be forewarned - this Halloween treat is destined to disappear. The irresistible appeal of peanut butter and chocolate layers over fudgy brownies is a real pleaser for an adult Halloween party or an anytime family dessert.

(15.5-oz.) pkg. thick 'n fudgy chocolate chunk deluxe brownie mix

cup oil

tablespoons water

Filling

1 1/2
cups creamy peanut butter
1 1/2
cups powdered sugar

Topping

(12-oz.) pkg. (2 cups) semisweet chocolate chips
1/4
cup creamy peanut butter
1/4
cup chopped salted dry-roasted peanuts
1
(1.63-oz.) pkg. (1/3 cup) candy-coated peanut butter pieces

  • 1 Heat oven to 350°F. Grease bottom only of 13x9-inch pan. Prepare brownie mix as directed on package using oil, 3 tablespoons water and egg. Spread batter in greased pan. Bake at 350°F. for 17 to 22 minutes or until edges are set. DO NOT OVERBAKE. Cool 45 minutes or until completely cooled. Freeze brownie base for 20 minutes so filling is easier to spread.
  • 2 In small bowl, combine 1 1/2 cups peanut butter and powdered sugar; blend well. Spread over cold brownie base.
  • 3 In small saucepan, melt chocolate chips over low heat, stirring frequently. Add 1/4 cup peanut butter; mix well. Spread over bars. Sprinkle top with peanuts and candies. Score bars to make 36 pieces. Refrigerate 45 minutes or until chocolate is set. Store covered at room temperature. Cut on scored lines into bars.

These were pretty easy to assemble, great tasting and I agree on cutting them small. the ONLY complaint I had was in the powdered sugar/PB layer, mine came out crumbly, so i had to add more PB to make it spreadable. You can elminate or cut back on the candies and nuts if you like, makes it kind of sharp on the mouth for little kiddos.

Absolutely excellent! Everyone at my party agreed. This is easy and yummy. Cut the bars small - they are very rich!
