Tips & Tricks

Pasta provides endless variety for dinners and lunches. From wee ones who love mac 'n cheese, to sophisticated palates enjoying the most robust of Italian flavors, everyone can find plenty to like about pasta.

Pasta tips:

  • Add oil and salt to water before boiling it (to help water boil faster, and to prevent pasta from sticking).
  • Boil water before adding dry pasta and keep water boiling during cooking.
  • Pasta cooks fast, so monitor it closely.
  • Slightly under-cook pasta that will be added to casseroles or dishes that will be baked or further cooked.
  • Over-cooked pasta becomes sticky and mushy. Check pasta for doneness as the end of the cooking time appoaches.
  • Dry pasta is about half the volume of fresh or cooked pasta. Keep this in mind for your recipe if you purchase fresh pasta in the refrigerated section of the grocery store.
  • Extra pasta? Mound it on lettuce to add interest to plated salads, or mix with tuna or cooked chicken and poppy-seed dressing to accompany soups or sandwiches.
